Andrew Killey

Business, Motivational, Media

Andrew Killey is one of the founding partners of Killey Withy Punshon Advertising - kwp! kwp! opened their doors on April 2nd, 1991 - some said a day late! Now kwp! has what is considered one of the most successful, next generation advertising agencies in Australia.

Australia was still in the grips of "the recession we had to have" when kwp! opened its doors in what used to be a fish and chip shop.

Many questioned the sense of Andrew leaving multi national advertising agency, Clemenger BBDO where he had been Creative Director for 18 years to start his own business. For much of that time he had been on the local and national boards

But at 41 years of age he felt he had to put his theories to the test while he was energetic enough to do the hard yards.

In the last, almost 12 years the agency has grown and now has offices in Brisbane, Melbourne as well as Adelaide.

It has 50 full time staff.

Philosophically, the kwp! way is to put the people who have the ideas in direct contact with the people who want the ideas.

Clients include Coopers Brewery, TAB, Ford Special Performance Vehicles, Vili's, The South Australian Tourism Commission, RAA, Harris Scarfe, Pewsey Vale, Janzs, Heggies, Wild Turkey, Adelaide Bank, Ultra Tune, Channel 7, Clipsal 500, AQIS.

Some of their more memorable advertising campaigns include:
Coopers Dark Side of The Family
The Secrets Campaign for South Australian Tourism
TAB "Racing to the TAB with Madam Lash"
Vili's Flaky Pastry radio commercials
The Bar Codes commercial for Sky City
Steve Irwin (Crikey - The Crocodile Hunter) presenting for AQIS
You're Never Far From Your Local Sip N' Save and many more.
kwp! has been voted agency of the year four times and been runner up three times since it opened it doors.

Their aim is to "Have fun, do good work and make a fair profit".

A key factor to the company's success is the way it attracts "nice talented people" and puts them in vibrant and ever changing environment and seemingly unstructured environment.

Andrew's part in the growth of kwp! along with partners Peter Withy and Lyn Punshon is a story of hard work, using the benefits of living in Adelaide while understanding the world doesn't end at the South Australian border.

A further factor is his belief in sticking to the knitting and visiting as many front bars as possible.

He loves advertising and he loves kwp!
