What sort of jazz do you get when you mix original, soulfully smooth compositions and some big bluesy numbers with arrangements of contemporary popular songs? You get that Etype kind of jazz!
Mike Haynes (double bass), Katrina Ryan (vocals) and Beth Lyon (sax) are Etype.
Accompanied by Brenton Foster on piano and Barnabas Smith on drums, this classy five piece act from South Australia perform a polished show filled with energy and simmering sophistication.
Etype has independently sold over 28,000 albums, picked up two Australian Live Music Awards and performed frontline for international greats such as Sting, Harry Connick Jr, Rod Stewart and George Benson.
The Weekend Australian has called them “warm and sexy”, Street Press like “their cool swinging groove”, and Jazzscene say “We love this band, and believe that you will too!”
Shows vary from intimate audiences of 50 people up to audiences over 800. Festival and support performances have seen the band perform for audiences of up to 35,000 people in Australia, and up to 1600 people in the United States.
“Every so often some new talents emerge, destined to do great things. Such is the case with Etype. They have a healthy instinct to provide the right kind of musical material to the audiences that is key to their success. I wholeheartedly support them and wish them a well-deserved bright and successful future.”
