Lano & Woodley emerged from the popular comedy trio Found Objects.
In 1993 Col and Frank received the Brian McCarthy Memorial Moosehead
Award - a trust set up to fund and nurture new comic ideas. They
asked Neill Gladwin (ex Los Trios Ringbarkus) to direct and Lano &
Woodley was born.
National acclaim translated into international fame for Lano &
Woodley when they took their show "Fence" to the Edinburgh Festival
in 1994, where they won the prestigious Perrier Pick of the Fringe
Award. The award is the unofficial Comedy Oscar and brought Lano &
Woodley international recognition and unprecedented rave reviews by
press and audiences alike.
Returning to Edinburgh in 1995 with a new show "Curtains", Lano &
Woodley played to packed houses and attracted significant interest
from television executives, culminating in a co-production deal with
Working Title UK ("Four Weddings and a Funeral", "Mr Bean",
"Elizabeth"). "The Adventures of Lano and Woodley" (13 x 1/2 hour)
was seen by Australian audiences late in 1997 and has sold to 35
countries including the UK to the BBC. Their first series was
directed in part by Bob Spiers ("Absolutely Fabulous", "The
Goodies", "Comic Strip Presents" etc). They are currently developing
a feature film with Working Title.
In Australia they remain popular favourites on television, radio and
on stage.
As if international success on stage and screen is not enough - they
have released a book through Penguin, "Housemeeting", which Frank
also illustrated.
Lano & Woodley are currently touring nationally with their latest
live show, a new narrative-based show "Bruiser" which premiered at
the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this year to packed
houses and rave reviews.
